We welcome students from ALL educational and professional backgrounds — business/finance, accounting, math and applied sciences, English and the humanities, and more.
If you don’t have an accounting background, you can choose to earn your degree on campus OR earn it online. Both offer excellent benefits and both are built to accommodate students with no prior accounting coursework or experience. You’ll want to select the format that best suits your schedule and preference.
If you already have an accounting background, you can choose to earn your degree on campus OR earn it online. However, our online format allows for transfer credits to accommodate students with varying levels of accounting experience – from those with no coursework or work experience at all to those who have spent significant time with the material in class or in the profession.
For the online format, if you enter with an accounting-heavy background you will receive a personalized curriculum that incorporates additional business coursework and/or transfers for courses you have already completed. In these situations, the total credit hours may be less than the program’s standard requirements, which also reduces your cost to complete the program.
Our admissions staff looks forward to getting to learn more about each student that applies to our top-ranked UNC Master of Accounting program. We know that every applicant to our program is distinct, and, when reviewing your application, we take into consideration your unique educational background, work experience, and life achievements. Our staff uses a holistic approach that considers the entirety of your application when reviewing it, so no one section is taken into consideration without deliberation of your entire application. We look forward to receiving your application to our program.
International Applicants to the Online Format
Due to immigration regulations governing employment, international students enrolled in the online format are not eligible to participate in campus-based employer recruitment events or internships in the U.S.

You can start our MAC program online in December, March, June, and September, and on campus in June. Admissions are on a rolling basis; however, deadlines guide our fellowship-consideration windows.

We regularly host live events and webinars on a variety of topics. These are excellent opportunities for you to meet our admissions and career experts and pepper us with any questions you have.
The best way to learn about a program is to connect with those who are in it. Our ambassadors come from different majors, different career paths, and even different countries, but they’re all ready to meet you.
Yes, grad school is an investment, but it’s a solid investment. Simply put, the math works. We also offer fellowships – and many awards exceed $10,000 – and financial aid to students in both our online and on-campus formats.
