I’m originally from Uzbekistan and currently the only student from Uzbekistan in the MBA program here at UNC. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from Westminster International University in Tashkent.

Before starting my MBA, I primarily focused on government-related roles, working at the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Uzbekistan and Platon Research. My experience gave me valuable insights into public finance and policy-making, which I now build upon in my MBA studies, concentrating in Corporate Finance.

After graduation I joined Schneider Electric in their Advanced Development Program where I eventually moved to the North American Procurement team as a Project Specialist. Most recently I was the Operations Manager for a cardboard company in Monterrey named Todo Empaque EF.

As I wanted to hone my overall business skills, I decided to pursue my MBA at UNC Kenan-Flagler, specializing in Operations Management & Business Analytics and Management Science in order to seek positions in key operations roles leading international companies.

In this role, I partnered with business leaders to drive strategic initiatives that aligned people and business goals, such as developing leadership pipelines, building employee capabilities, and facilitating change management. One of my proudest achievements was leading a digital upskilling program for 1,300 employees that supported the business’ digital transformation. My background is unique – I hold a public health degree from George Washington University and a nursing degree from Emory University. For the past 9 years, I excelled in the fast-paced world of healthcare; working as an EMT, a cardiovascular ICU and field medicine nurse, and a clinical instructor. Hi! I’m Fatima Salau, an international student hailing from Lagos, Nigeria. I have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in economics with diverse experience in the commercial banking sector, holding various positions within the finance and strategy group. I began my banking career as a service executive and then pivoted into financial regulatory reporting, responsible for preparing Sterling Bank’s financial reports to regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Subsequently, I transitioned into a management reporting role, utilizing financial data analysis to assist management in making well-informed decisions. Finally, I was an investor relations officer, fostering relationships between the bank and investment communities.

A SoCal guy at heart, I was born in Lima, Peru and immigrated to San Diego, Calif. at the age of seven. I received my degree in Biotechnology from Cal Poly and upon graduating, returned to Los Angeles/Orange County where I bounced around the Biotech and Biopharma industry through a couple of Quality, Product Development and Regulatory roles. After five-plus years in the industry, I wanted to expand my reach within Healthcare and pivot to the commercial and marketing side, which is why I decided to pursue an MBA. I knew Kenan-Flagler was going to be the best place to get me to my career goals through the action-based approach to learning, collaborative student body, as well as the proximity to Big Pharma, Biotech Start-ups and  Consulting offices in the Research Triangle.

Hola! I’m Jose Velazquez, an international student from Venezuela. I kick-started my professional journey with a dual-degree program where I earned a Bachelor’s degree from Tec de Monterey (Mexico) and a Master’s degree from Macquarie University (Australia), both in International Business. Afterwards, I joined Johnson & Johnson within their Finance Leadership Program and eventually pivoted to Corporate Banking. Most recently, I was the Sales Finance Controller for Mexico at Dell.

I’m pursuing my MBA at UNC Kenan-Flagler, specializing in Consulting and Marketing to pivot into a consulting or strategy role, while leveraging my cross-industry experience.

After graduation, I worked at DISH Network, a satellite television company, on their internal strategy team for five years. While there, I worked/negotiated with various clients in the media/entertainment industry and created analyses around viewership and financials to help justify negotiations decisions. I’m planning to pursue a career in strategy consulting, with a hope to focus in the media/entertainment and technology sectors.

Mr. Salah has an MS and a BCE in Construction Engineering and Management from Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt. Mr. Salah has extensive experience on roadways, residential buildings, airports, power plants, hotels, telecommunications, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and infrastructure across the United States, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East & North Africa region.
