Duke Energy Career Trek

Duke LIncolon

On Nov. 3, 2023, the Energy Club visited Duke Energy’s Lincoln Combustion Turbine Station, Emerging Technology Office (ETO) and its new headquarters in downtown Charlotte. Site managers at the Lincoln Combustion Turbine Station discussed how the natural gas turbines produce power to meet customer demand, and gave students a tour of Siemen Energy’s SGT6-9000HL gas turbine, which earned the title of world’s “most powerful simple-cycle gas power plant” with an output of 410.9 megawatts and ability to convert to hydrogen fuel.

At the ETO in Mont Holly, North Carolina, engineers exhibited their research on microgrid technologies, battery storage, EV-to-grid discharge capabilities, and technologies focused on reducing energy consumption during peak periods at the consumer level.

The club concluded the day with a tour of Duke Energy’s company headquarters located in downtown Charlotte. There they were shown a demonstration of current projects and how Duke monitors and develops IT security procedures.

The Energy Club thanks all the Duke Energy personnel involved in the trek’s coordination and for the invaluable insights they provided.
