In early 2026, UNC Kenan-Flagler will open Steven D. Bell Hall, a 140,000-foot expansion of our School on our beautiful Chapel Hill campus. This innovative facility is designed for modern education, featuring adaptable classrooms, collaborative spaces, and state-of-the-art technology, fostering a sense of community and belonging among students.
Sustainability is a hallmark of the building’s design as it leverages its natural setting to reduce energy use, prioritizes green space and incorporates nature into the design to support student wellness. It is on track to meet UNC’s Three Zeroes initiative, with targets of net zero water, zero waste to landfills and net zero greenhouse gas emissions, and to earn a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
