Interviews

Your interview with UNC Kenan-Flagler

The admissions interview helps us get to know you and is an important and required part of our application review process. The interview also helps you get to know us and gives you an excellent opportunity to learn more about our program, culture, and student experience.

Your interview will be conducted by a member of the Admissions Team who will have access your résumé, but not your full application. Most interviews last about 30 minutes and typically have a conversational tone.

Interviews by invite only

Select candidates will be invited to interview by the admissions committee after submitting a complete MBA application. Applicants who are invited to interview will be able to do so in-person or virtually. The admissions committee does not have a preference on which interview format you choose.

Invitations are extended to selected candidates via e-mail. Those invited to interview will receive specific instructions for how to schedule an interview on campus or via webcam.

There isn’t a specific interview notification date. You may receive an invitation to interview via e-mail at any time after you submit your application, up until the day of the admissions decision release. For more information, review our requirements and deadlines.

If you don’t receive an invitation to interview by the decision release date, your admissions decision will be either “deny” or “waitlist.” If you accept a waitlist offer and have not been interviewed, you’ll be invited to do so prior to the next round’s decision release date (or after the Round 4 decision release date for Round 4 applicants).

Applicants applying through The Consortium

Important note: To be eligible for an interview, you will need to start your application through The Consortium and select UNC Kenan-Flagler as one of your schools; please do not start a separate UNC Kenan-Flagler application.

Interview tips

Admissions interviews provide additional insight into your candidacy and help us evaluate your fit for our rigorous academic program and collaborative, team-based culture.

  • Use your time wisely during the interview. While we want to know more about your professional strengths, accomplishments and goals, we are just as interested in your passions, personality, communication skills, what drives you, and the life experiences leading you to pursue an MBA.
  • The interview takes 30 minutes to complete and you will have a few minutes to ask questions at the end of your interview. It is best to be mindful of your time with your interviewer and not ask questions that you can easily find answers to on the website.
  • Business professional attire is strongly recommended.
