Australia: Sydney | UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School

Spend eight weeks interning for a company in Sydney. One of the most iconic cities in the world, Sydney is home to a wide variety of businesses in various domestic and international markets. Interns will get a flavor of this vibrant city while building their professional development through project-based internship work.

Interns will work with a team in Sydney and will have frequent engagement with their supervisor and working teams. Interns will also interact frequently with our internship provider, Global Academic Ventures.

During this summer experience, you will apply the theories and concepts you’ve learned in class to a professional international working environment, learning and practicing the customs, behaviors and norms of another culture.

The skills you develop on this internship will transform you as a leader and give you a distinct competitive advantage in the job market. Along with practicing fundamental workplace skills, you will prove that you can work in a diverse environment, adapt to change, be a flexible problem solver and integrate successfully into a diverse and cross-cultural team—all high-demand skills for today’s globally minded employers.

You will work Monday through Friday for eight weeks at your placement company for 30-35 hours per week.

You must be admitted to the UNC Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Business Program to apply for this program. Pre-business students, non-business majors and minors and non-UNC students are not eligible, with the exception of students in the Assured Admission Program (AAP). Admission status will be verified for all applicants.

Academics

On this program, you will be enrolled in BUSI 393–Internship Credit. This 3.0 business elective credit course includes submission of reflective activities assigned by UNC and a written evaluation from a supervisor that will be included as a component of your grade. In addition to earning business elective credit hours, this program also fulfills the Experiential Education/High-Impact Experience requirement.

Program Provider

This program is run through a third-party provider, Global Academic Ventures.

Global Academic Ventures provides management and support to students for the duration of the program. Fully trained local staff will be the principal contact for students on matters related to the internship and will provide information as needed.

Global Academic Ventures also arranges cultural and social programs for interns, included in the fees for this program.

Withdrawal Policy: Once a student accepts their offer/enrolls on a study abroad program, the spot will be considered filled and will not be offered to another student. Students who withdraw from UBP Global are responsible for non-recoverable costs including the Global Programs Administrative Fee. Your student account will be assessed charges to cover any/all amounts that Kenan-Flagler UBP Global programs has committed or paid on your behalf and are non-recoverable at the time of withdrawal. Such costs include, housing, meals, transportation and any expenses that may be associated with faculty and support participation on your program (if applicable).

***Out of Pocket Estimates are based on the cost of the program, which is determined by combining the average costs our previous students have spent in each of these categories, along with the costs our partner provides to us as their averages. These estimates are subject to change based on exchange rate fluctuations, bank fees, and individual variances in costs of living.

Travel Documents

Do you have a valid passport? If yes, check your passport’s expiration date to ensure that your passport is valid at least 6 months after your program’s scheduled end date. If not, you’ll need to submit a passport renewal application.

Do you need to apply for a passport (first time or renew)? If yes, we recommend that you get started on your passport application right away as you’ll need time to collect documents like your birth certificate to include as part of your application. For complete instructions click here.

Will I need immigration documents? If you are accepted into this program you will need to obtain a visa permitting you to study in Australia. For your visa application, you will need your passport along with other documentation from our office and the host university office. Please note that this visa guidance is for U.S. citizens. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you may be responsible for obtaining a different type of immigration visa. Global Academic Ventures will provide more guidance, but please set up an appointment with your Global Programs Advisor if you have additional questions.
